Why should I choose to volunteer with LOP?

LOP programs offer unparalleled opportunities to get involved on the front lines of sustainable community development and conservation initiatives internationally. In addition, LOP participants are able to explore the best natural wonders of their host country and experience first-hand cultural education through LOP’s unique adventure tour opportunities. In the realm of voluntourism, LOP sets the industry standards for best practices, safety, applied learning, and, of course, fun!

LOP is much more than just a volunteer or student travel organization. LOP is a constantly growing team that fosters positive change and development across global lines. Our volunteers spread awareness to the world, and share compassion and goodwill to communities and endangered habitats in need.

Can children under 18 attend?

Yes, a parent will need to sign the liability release form and you will need to inform LOP by emailing info@liftourplanet.com so we can place you in the proper group with the correct supervisor(s).

Are the adventure trips safe?

Our highest priority is the safety and well being of all our participants, staff and global partners. We also ensure our volunteer host organization partners make our volunteers’ safety their top priority. You will not be forced to participate in any adventure activity.

How will I help to make a difference in my host country?

LOP volunteers in community development and will participate in building schools, homes, libraries, roads, medical facilities and community centers. Those who serve on the children’s projects will tutor children in fundamental topics such as English, math, sciences, geography and health education. Participants on wildlife conservation projects will protect mistreated or endangered species such as elephants and sea turtles through hands-on rescue and rehabilitation projects. Volunteers who serve on environmental management projects will plant fruit trees and vegetable gardens, conduct forest clean-ups and inform communities of their local environmental issues and how to protect their surroundings.

Think of your volunteer experience in relation to the old Chinese Proverb, “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life.” LOP volunteers are teaching communities how to “eat” for the rest of their lives — in other words, to subsist on their own.

Is airfare included?

Airfare is not included in the package cost because flights vary depending on the destination of your choice. However, LOP has professionals who negotiate the best possible price for our group flights. They work with reputable airlines and minimize layovers wherever possible, to ensure a smooth arrival and departure.

Can my family volunteer with me?

Yes, we encourage families to volunteer together with LOP. Serving the less fortunate is a great way to create lasting family memories.

Are there additional hidden fees?

Do I need a passport and visa?

Yes, a passport is required for international travel. Your passport must be valid until at least six months after your trip return date. Visa’s will depend upon the country you are traveling too. Further information will be sent in the welcome packet once you sign up.

What happens if I sign up and can’t attend the trip?
