Meet the Lift Our Planet team in the Chiang Mai airport. A member of our staff will meet you there, and we’ll chat about the program as we escort you to the hotel. When we arrive, you’ll have some time to settle in before joining your fellow volunteers for a welcome dinner.
After breakfast, we’ll begin orientation, where you’ll receive a cultural education and a Thai language lesson. We’ll review temple etiquette and cultural do’s and don’ts before embarking on a walking tour through the streets of Chiang Mai. In the evening, a local chef will teach you how to prepare a traditional Thai meal
We’ll start the day with a tour of the Elephant Parade, where you’ll get to paint your own figuring and wander through the art installations. Afterward, we’ll visit the Elephant Conservation Center and Elephant Hospital Foundation, where we’ll meet Mosha the Elephant! We end our day with traditional Thai dance dinner theater and a bit of relaxation.
After breakfast, we’ll take a trip to the most famous temple in Northern Thailand, the Doi Suthep Temple*. Afterwards, we’ll journey to the Doi Pui Hill Tribe and the botanical gardens. It’s important that volunteers have appropriate temple clothes that cover shoulders, chest, and knees covered. Lack of proper covering will prevent you from entering the temple.
About an hour outside of Chiang Mai, we’ll be soaring through the jungle on an exciting zip-line adventure. There are several activities to choose from, including: spiral staircase, hill tribe ladder, Kung Fu walk, zig-zag walk way, monkey bridge, flying skateboard, and a climbing net. We’ll pass by beautiful foliage and waterfalls on our way!
Travel to Elephant Jungle Sanctuary, where we’ll be spending the next several days getting to know the elephants and the staff. Receive an introduction to elephant care from bathing and feeding to medicines, and then we’ll hike through the jungle alongside them. In the evening, we’ll ring in the New Year with a small celebration!
Start the day with basic elephant care; you’ll feed, bathe, and mud the elephants. (They love getting extra attention!) The afternoon will be spent helping the sanctuary create food and herbal medicine. Elephants eat hundreds of pounds a day, so this task is especially helpful! Get some rest soft sounds of the nocturnal jungle life all around you before another day of service.
Enjoy your last full day of service in the sanctuary with an elephant hike through the jungle after breakfast. All of the elephants on the sanctuary roam freely, and you’ll get to observe and interact with them naturally! The rest of the day is spent feeding, caring for the elephants, and offering support however the sanctuary needs.
Say your goodbyes to our gentle giant friends and head back to Chiang Mai for a final day in the beautiful nation of Thailand. You’ll have some time to shop for souvenirs and explore the city on your own. In the evening, you’ll join us for a Farewell Dinner and celebrate all of your hard work!
Say goodbyes to your new LOP family and travel to the airport. A member of the Lift Our Planet staff will escort you and assist you with checking in and boarding your flight. Head home with a mind full of new memories and a heart full of elephants!
